Notes on the Italian vocabulary files
The Italian vocabulary files supplied with Interlex adhere to the following conventions:
- Stress is indicated by a bullet before the stressed vowel (e.g. s·emplice, amich·evole), except when it falls unambiguously on the penultimate syllable (e.g. studente, zia, mafia cf. geograf·ia) or the word contains an accent (e.g. città, perché).
- Nouns are preceded by the definite article, which is not translated.
- Gender is indicated if it cannot be deduced from the article, e.g. l'acqua.
- Nouns of variable gender are preceded by il/la or l'. In the latter case the gender is indicated as m. or f.
