Frequently Asked Questions
Free? What's the catch?
Interlex is completely free for both private and commercial use. It is fully
functional, does not have a time limit and does not contain any advertising.
If you like the software please consider making a donation.
I already have some vocabulary lists in Word/Excel/Notepad etc. Will
I be able to open them in Interlex?
Yes. If you save your vocabulary as a text file you can convert it to Interlex
format using the Import facility.
I'm learning Russian/Greek/Polish etc. and I need to use a special
keyboard layout. Will this work in Interlex?
Yes. There is an automatic keyboard switching option which is very convenient
in this situation.
I want to type in French/German/Dutch etc. using the English keyboard
layout. Is there a quick way to insert accented characters that aren't available
on my keyboard?
There are three ways to do this. You can use the Character menu (a
popup menu that appears when you right-click on a text box), a standard keyboard
shortcut (as in English versions of Word), or a custom keyboard shortcut (a
keyboard mapping of your own choice).
I'm learning Arabic, Hebrew, Chinese etc. Will this language be supported
in a future version?
I'm afraid I have no plans to extend the range of languages available in Interlex
at present.
I'm not a native English speaker. Is there a version of Interlex in
my language?
At present Interlex is only available with English menus and documentation.
However, you can still use this version even if you don't speak English. Interlex
files have two language settings, native and foreign, both
of which are set by the user. For example, a German learning Polish would select
German as the native language and Polish as the foreign language.
